Dust off your space suit and hug a pine tree, because Outer Wilds has officially launched on Nintendo Switch! We squeezed an entire solar system onto a little handheld, so now you can bring it with you to play next to the campfire. ::)
Here’s the link to the Nintendo E-Shop, where you can buy the Archeologist’s Edition (Outer Wilds + Echoes of the Eye): https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/outer-wilds-archaeologist-edition-switch/ If you prefer, you can choose to buy just the base game and add on Echoes of the Eye later (link). There will also be a physical version coming out in 2024, so keep all your eyes peeled for that announcement! This was no small feat of Hearthian engineering, and it took many time loops of work. There was a lot of optimism when we announced our original launch date. However, Outer Wilds is more complicated than it appears from high orbit. We delayed launch when it became clear more work was needed, and when we decided to ship the expansion, Echoes of the Eye, alongside the base game on Nintendo Switch. Two and a half years later, we feel the Nintendo Switch version is finally ready to go out into the world. We're also committed to continual support and improvement for the Switch version, so please look forward to patches coming very soon. We’re very thankful to our friends at the campfire, Unity Professional Services, for all their hard work on the Nintendo Switch version. Without their determination and ingenuity, this would not have been possible. To all Switch-only gamers waiting for this day, we appreciate your patience. And to all our existing fans, thank you for continuing to share your experiences in the Wilds. At long last, welcome to the Space Program, and happy exploring! Cheers, Mobius Digital At long last, we’re thrilled to announce that Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition is releasing on Nintendo Switch on December 7th, 2023! Preorders are available now on Nintendo’s website:
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/outer-wilds-switch/ The base game and Echoes of the Eye DLC also will be available separately digitally. Echoes of the Eye can preordered here: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/outer-wilds-echoes-of-the-eye-70050000045020-switch/ Additionally, an iam8bit physical version for Outer Wilds on Switch will be available in 2024! Check out the Indie World announcement here: https://www.youtube.com/live/RLgXk2xy79c?si=o1CLdiS1QZTVCdbF&t=1073 We know the wait has been long. Putting Outer Wilds on Switch was a bigger undertaking than we expected. Luckily, we had the help of an incredible external development partner. We’re glad to have been able to give the Switch version the time and effort it deserved. Whether you’re already part of our community or have been waiting to play Outer Wilds for the first time, we appreciate your patience. We’re so excited to bring Outer Wilds to a new audience. Hopefully, you’ll find it worth the wait! Thanks again, as always, to our community for their love, support, and patience. Cheers, Mobius Outer Wilds and Echoes of the Eye Patch 14 is now available! This is a small patch to address some issues on the Steam Deck, and we fixed some bugs while we were at it. It includes accessibility improvements on all platforms: a new Large UI Mode, improvements to the legibility of some button icons, and an FOV slider on consoles!
Introducing: Large UI mode! We hope this mode will help folks playing on smaller screens or who just wish the text and UI was a bit bigger. By default, the game will automatically detect what size the UI should be based on your platform and display. If you’d like to manually set the size, simply go to Options > Audio & Language > UI Size. You can then choose between Auto, Regular, or Large. Patch 1.1.14 Changes: Gameplay

That’s the End of This Update We want to say thank you all again! As we said last time, there are no more major updates planned for Outer Wilds or Echoes of the Eye because we are moving on to new projects. There might be smaller updates, like this one, as we have time, but we cannot guarantee more updates. Regardless, you can reach us via email to report any issues. Thanks for your support and keep exploring! Mobius As the year wraps up, we decided to make Patch 11 and Patch 12 available to players on Steam. You can switch to these versions by simply following the steps below.
Note that these builds have known issues that were fixed in later versions. Recent save files might also be corrupted if you use them with previous builds. Before reporting any issues, please switch to the latest version and double check whether you still have problems.
Thanks and happy holidays, explorers! As a solution for the judder/stutter issue on the PS5 version of Outer Wilds, we’ve added a PS5-specific feature called Render Modes. Render Modes provide different options for visual fidelity and framerate, allowing players without VRR-enabled displays to have a smooth experience.
Render modes include:
With this update, the default Render Mode is now 1440p/60fps. This mode reduces the resolution across the game to a locked 1440p and 60fps, eliminating judder. The 2160p/30fps Render Mode is similar, but instead locks the game at 2160p (a.k.a. 4k) and 30fps. Use this mode if you want the highest resolution and don’t mind a lower framerate. The Dynamic/60fps Render Mode is the same settings profile as before the hotfix, and remains as close to 2160p at 60fps as possible, but framerate drops may cause judder as before on non-VRR displays. If your display supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), we highly suggest using the Dynamic/60fps Render Mode. This should result in a smooth framerate and clean image quality. That's it for this update! Thank you to our PS5 players for your understanding and support as we tackled this issue. And as always, keep exploring! Best, Mobius Players with NVIDIA graphics cards: A hotfix for the screen going black or being obscured by purple fog in certain situations is now live on PC! If you previously rolled back your graphics drivers to work around this issue, you may now safely update them.
Heads up that the fix is still rolling out on Windows Store but should be available shortly. Edit: A second hotfix is now out on PC for a more minor bug caused by the Nvidia driver updates. These two hotfixes cover all issues related to the driver update that we're aware of. That's it for this update Thanks to everyone who reached out to report this issue, and be sure to let us know if anything else goes awry at support@mobiusdigitalgames.com! Cheers, Mobius A hotfix that provides a workaround for juddering/stuttering on PS5 is now live! If you've encountered this problem, try disabling the new VSync option in the in-game graphics menu.
If your TV or monitor supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), we highly suggest that you play with that feature enabled instead of disabling VSync. This should result in a smooth framerate and clean image quality. Note this is a stopgap hotfix, as disabling VSync will result in visible screen tearing. We are working to find a good middle-ground solution for players without VRR support. For more info about VRR: https://blog.playstation.com/2022/04/25/variable-refresh-rate-support-for-ps5-is-rolling-out-this-week/ That's the End of This Update Thanks for your support and keep exploring! Cheers, Mobius Outer Wilds and Echoes of the Eye Patch 13 is now available! This is our final planned major patch, so we’ve filled it with lots of polish, bug fixes, and some new features on all platforms. Any future patches will be smaller and focused on specific areas, features, or major bugs. Patch 1.1.13 Changes: Gameplay

As always, you can reach us via email to report any issues. Thanks for your support and keep exploring! Mobius Outer Wilds is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S! These ports use next-gen powers to allow spacefaring at 4k 60fps. Note that the release may roll out unevenly, so there might be slight delays getting the download onto your console. These ports are technically upgrades. We’ll dive into some common questions about what that means below. FAQ’s: Wasn’t Outer Wilds already out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
How to update the game on PS5: If you have the PS4 version of Outer Wilds already downloaded on PS5: If you own Outer Wilds but the PS4 version isn’t downloaded on your PS5: That’s the End of This Update
Whether you’ve been around the solar system or have yet to lift off, we hope you enjoy exploring on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S! Though these consoles are new and shiny, we promise the ship is still held together with good old duct tape and tree sap. As always, you can reach us via email to report any issues. Thanks for your support and keep exploring! Mobius We are constantly amazed by all the wild and wonderful fan art made by the Outer Wilds community. However, we’ve also been struggling to keep up with requests to review or give permission for use of Mobius Digital IP. In response, we decided that we too should become a cool, hip game studio with a fan art policy.
We want this policy to enable you all to continue to make Outer Wilds and other Mobius Digital related fan works. We spent a lot of time crafting it, reviewing other studio policies, and incorporating feedback from our legal team. However, we want to make sure this policy and FAQ are clear and answer the most common questions, so if you have questions or feedback, please let us know! Either by commenting on this blog post or emailing us at support@mobiusdigitalgames.com. We’re a small team, so won’t be able to respond to every message, but we’ll do our best! Read our Fan Content Policy here. Thank you again – from the bottom of our hearts – for being such a great community of creative, curious, and wonderful people. Cheers, Mobius |
